The Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, had informed the interior ministry about the assassination bid by the al Qaeda to kill Benazir Bhutto days before the attack. A copy of the letter has been procured.
ISI had written a letter to the Interior ministry seven days before the attack, informing about an assassination bid by the al Qaeda to kill Benazir Bhutto and also mentioned Rehman Malik’s name. The letter also demanded tight security for Benazir Bhutto.
The Interior ministry forwarded the letter to police and concerned security departments.
Despite the forewarning, Bhutto was assassinated on December 27, 2007 after a rally at Liaquat National Bagh, Rawalpindi.
